Preparing for the storm.

Being prepared for the storm.
At this time of year here in Florida we hear about being prepared for a hurricane. But …we also get many violent storms. Growing up on a farm in Illinois we always had thunderstorms, snow storms and the occasional tornado.

We had to be prepared at all times due to the sudden nature of the storms.

I thought I would share some of my family tricks.
1. Fill the bath tub with water. (allowed flushing the toilet during power loss)
2. Flipped off the breakers. (kept lighting from coming in through the outlets, also allow the home to be checked for damaged after power was restored)
3. Keep the gas tank full in the car. (in case the gas station power was off)
4. Flashlights in every room.
5. Important papers readily available. (in case you have to evacuate quick)
6. Stored pictures of all personal property.
7. Always knew where every family member was located. (in and out of home)
8. Keep prescriptions for quick access.
9. Have first aid kits in cars and home.
We were always taught to be prepared and ready for any storm.

If you have time to evacuate …that is the best way to be safe in a hurricane.
